Robin "Rob" Kasson Obituary

Mr. Rob A. Kasson passed away at Lake Geneva, Wisconsin on 21 August, 2022.

Robin (Rob) Atwater was born in Silver Spring, Maryland on the 7th of October, 1933. He was the only child of Mr. and Mrs. Constant Kasson, who were in Maryland at the time, learning about the new technology called dry cleaning.  Prior to this, Rob’s father was a US Navy aviator during WWII and was involved in pilot training and coastal anti submarine patrols.

Rob attended schools throughout his early years in both Roswell, New Mexico and eventually Chattanooga, Tennessee.   He attended the prestigious Baylor School near Lookout Mountain, TN and enjoyed his summers on Chickamauga Lake, exploring the many Civil War battlegrounds around Chattanooga.  After graduation from the Baylor School, he attended Northwestern University in Evanston, IL and obtained his bachelor’s degree in business.  At Northwestern, he was a member of the Delta Upsilon Fraternity and became a life-long Chicago Cubs fan.   While at Northwestern, he met his wife to be, Martha Jane McCully of Minonk, Illinois.  After getting married on September 3rd, 1955, Rob began working for the 3M Company of Minnesota.

During his career with 3M, the Kasson’s had two daughters, Kelly Anne Kasson, and Nancy Jean Kasson.  During their many family moves, they lived in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, thus making Rob and Martha life-long Louisiana State University (LSU) fans.  They also lived in Austin, Texas, Dallas, Texas, and St. Paul, Minnesota.  During his long career with 3M, Rob was involved in the development and sales of the reflective materials one sees today on road signs and license plates.  Rob was well known by his team of salesmen for keeping very detailed “pencil and paper” records of sales, as computer records were many years away.  Rob retired from 3M in 1990.

Rob and Martha were avid travelers, and they took their daughters on many vacation trips to Florida (beaches), Colorado (skiing), Texas (Padre Island), Lake Geneva, WI and Chicago.  Rob and Martha enjoyed golf together and were members of the North Oaks Country Club in North Oaks, Minnesota and the Pelican Landing Golf Club in Bonita Springs, Florida.

Following retirement, Rob and Martha traveled extensively to Europe to include Italy, Spain, France, Greece, the Baltics, and Russia.  They also visited their daughter Kelly, and her family, while they were assigned overseas in England with the Air Force.  The Kasson’s eventually retired in Bonita Springs, Florida (winter) and Lake Geneva, Wisconsin (summer).  They continued to be members of the historic Bigfoot Country Club in Fontana, Wisconsin during the summer months.  Rob greatly enjoyed aviation, boating, being a member of the LSU Tiger Fan Club, and reading.

Rob is survived by his wife Martha, of Lake Geneva, Wisconsin and daughter Nancy Kasson and Rick Kaczmarczyk of Osakis, Minnesota, as well as his granddaughters, Alison Coppinger of St. Petersburg, Florida, and Molly Coppinger of Washington, D.C. and Son-in-law Steve Coppinger of Estero, FL.

Rob was predeceased by his daughter Kelly Coppinger.
