Karin Hansen, 76, born May 2, 1946, in Copenhagen, Denmark, passed away peacefully, amidst family and friends, on September 6, 2022, in Burlington, Wisconsin.
Karin grew up in Elmwood Park, Illinois, raised her three daughters in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, and lived in Buffalo Grove, Illinois. She was known for her spunky, outgoing personality and her generosity. With her deep appreciation for theater, Karin enjoyed treating her family, particularly her grandchildren, to musicals. She was passionate about traveling and sharing her experiences. Karin had a spectacular career as a luxury travel consultant. Travel + Leisure featured her as an “A-list Agent” for bespoke itineraries, with China and Scandinavia as her specialty; and Conde Nast Traveler included her as a “Concierge for China.” first traveled from Denmark to the United States and she never stopped. She visited most of North America, Europe, Asia, Africa, and South America, leaving friends and smiles in both hemispheres and nearly every time zone. Her greatest joy, however, was time with her beloved grandchildren.
Karin spent her final months at her daughter’s farmhouse in the rolling hills outside of Burlington. Family, friends, and caregivers shared special moments with Karin; visiting Shullsburg, sitting on the back porch watching the sunset, playing board games, getting a mani/pedi, enjoying ice cream, or simply sharing meals (and, of course, love) with her family and friends.
Karin is survived by her daughters Paige (Ed) Mushinsky, Amy (Jon) Manthy, Betsy (Tom) Angulo; her grandchildren Talia, Alex, Elsa, Sophia, Ryan, Riley, Annika, and Morgan; and her nephew Russell Keller.
Karin was preceded in death by her parents, Hans Frederik Christian and Elizabeth “Betty” Violet Hansen, and her sister Carol Hoag.
Her family thanks St. Croix Hospice and her caregivers Karen “KK” and Vickie for making her final months comfortable.
Her final wish was to care for children and orphans. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Save the Children or St. Jude’s Hospital. Links have been provided below.
A celebration of life gathering will be held Friday, September 16, 2-4pm, at her daughter Betsy’s home N5965 Lyons Rd, Burlington, WI 53105.
