The time- 4:43 a.m., Tuesday, January 19, 2021: The Lord beckoned Elaine to her eternal home in Heaven. A beating heart larger than her natural being came to rest in the arms of her loving Father. At rest, finally, and with a peace of God that surpasses our understanding.
Elaine was born April 8, 1942 to Jerome and Ann Butterfield at their home in Smithfield, RI. She is preceded in death by her parents and older brother Hub. She left behind living brothers Bruce, Jerry, and Doug, and her husband Doug and son Michael. Her loving calling was to help and serve, which she tirelessly accomplished all of her life. She gave of herself wherever needed, and above all, serving the wishes of her Lord and Savior. Everyone who came into contact with her remembers her kind and loving compassion which left an indelible mark on their lives.
After graduating from high school in Rhode Island, Elaine was hired by Eastern Airlines as a flight attendant – again exhibiting her calling to serve – for 17 years. She met the love of her life, Doug, in the mountains of Vail, Colorado, where she was a member of the Eastern Airlines ski team. Traveling widely on her adventure with Doug, they married in May 1970. She welcomed her son Michael, born in 1975, an amazing blessing from God, who began to open her spiritual life even further. She was born again in 1978 when the Lord took her to Christian Retreat. Elaine was active in many areas, including Womens’ Aglo, Christian Women, as the organist at the Baptist Church in Lake Geneva, Warm Welcome, and the church choir at Calvary Church. She was active in the Lake Geneva Museum and the YMCA, and was a faithful Packer Backer.
While living in Lake Geneva, Elaine and Doug designed and built their home south of Lyons, WI. Always painting, building, cooking, and gardening, she made the house into a home. She leaves us all a legacy of love: a stepping stone to heaven which we will cherish forever. She lives today in the hearts of those who knew her, particularly son Michael, husband Doug, Mary Gluchman, and Stuart and Dee Wild and family. Special thanks are given to the Walworth County Sheriff’s Department, Lyons Fire and Rescue, and to the many friends who have extended such warm hands of kindness, prayer, and generosity to the Wild Family during their time of need.
Services for Elaine will be held on Tuesday January 26th, 2021 at 1:00pm at Calvary Community Church. Visitation will be from 11:00am till the time of service on the 26th.
