“Captain” Ron VanHorn, age 75, Crystal Lake, IL
Ron passed away peacefully on August 16, 2022. He was cared for under guardianship by his son Darrell (Lori) VanHorn. He is survived by many family members and friends. Ron’s love of living on the Fox river for the past 40 years and entertaining friends on his boats was one of his greatest pleasures. He received his maritime Captain’s license achieving this as recognition by the US. Coast Guard of his expertise with varied watercrafts. He was a talented carpenter and a brilliant craftsman. His passion showed in his artistry of restoring antique wooden boats, winning numerous awards for his exceptional workmanship. The pride of his boat fleet was evident in the care of his 1954 Chris Craft “Casual Elegance”. He is best described as an “old soul” whose life was enriched through living each day to the fullest. He thoroughly enjoyed entertaining friends, working on new projects, and cruising through life on his own terms. He will forever be reunited with his best companion, his keeshond Moses. A special Thank You to his longtime friend Joanne Bennett for the love and companionship shown to Ron during this difficult journey. There will be no formal services as Ron wished for everyone to remember him by celebrating his life in their own special way.
