Bobbie (Barbara Thorndike) Harmon went to Heaven on September 8, 2023. Having survived her 2021 diagnosis of stage 4 Metastatic Breast Cancer, it was discovered that she had developed Congestive Heart Failure. She entered Hospice Care at home on July 21, 2023.
She was born June 5, 1953, to Allston, jr. and Phyllis Thorndike in Milford, CT and grew up in the Black Rock section of Bridgeport. She attended Black Rock Church. When she was nine years old, she received Jesus into her heart; and when she was seventeen years old, dedicated her life to the Lord.
She graduated from Bassick High School in 1971, and in 1972 she graduated from Word of Life Bible Institute, Pottersville, NY. While there, she met Joel Harmon of Huron, So. Dakota. They married in 1974 and served the Lord together throughout their marriage. First at Byron Bible Camp in Huron, SD. Then at Zion Community Church, Wilmot, SD (1980 - 1984), and Grace Bible Church, Siloam Springs, AR (1984 - 1986). They returned to Byron Bible Camp and continued there until 1998.
They have two children, Adam Harmon, East Haven, CT and Angel (Jason) Fischer, Lake Geneva, WI. And two grandchildren, Oliver Fischer and Hazel Fischer.
In 2000, Bobbie and Joel moved to Lost River, WV to serve as directors at Lost River Retreat Center, then owned by Vienna Baptist Church, Vienna, VA. In 2008, they moved to Milford, CT to care for Bobbie's parents until they went to Heaven. They continued in Milford serving at Cornerstone Christian Center from 2013 - 2019. To celebrate their 45th wedding anniversary, Joel & Bobbie renewed their vows in a beautiful ceremony at Cornerstone, just prior to their retirement and moving to Elkhorn, WI, in June 2019.
Bobbie enjoyed crocheting and crafting of all kinds, especially making decorations using pheasant feathers. She loved being Grammie to Oliver and Hazel. Bobbie attended Mt. Zion Christian Church, Lake Geneva, WI and loved worshiping and fellowship there, especially with her small group. She enjoyed vacationing in Camden, ME, at the Thorndike Camp where she and her family had gone every summer during her childhood.
Besides her husband, children, and grandchildren, she leaves two sisters, Laura (Bob) Barrett and Karen Thorndike both of Milford, CT and one brother Bill (Marthee) Thorndike of Mystic, CT plus several nieces and nephews, cousins, Harmon brothers and sisters, and many friends.
