Thomas J. Leahy, 60, of Lake Geneva, WI and Door County, WI, formerly of Chicago, IL, died Tuesday February 7, 2012 at his home in Lake Geneva. Thomas John Leahy was born in Chicago, IL on June 19, 1951 the son of John and Margaret (Graef) Leahy. He graduated from Saint Gregory High School in Chicago, IL in 1969, he then graduated from the University of Illinois with a degree in education and then from DePaul University with a Masters Degree in Education. On June 15, 1985 in Chicago, IL he was united in marriage to the former Lucy Morales. They moved to Lake Geneva in 1992 when Tom was hired as a guidance counselor at Badger High School. Tom’s two passions were protecting and educating children and collecting antique cars. He was an avid outdoorsman enjoying fishing and golf. He was a very compassionate person always willing to help someone in need. He was President of the Wood School Board and the Walden Association.
Tom is survived by: Lucy, his wife of 26 years, 2 sisters Kathleen (John) Luxem of Arlington Heights, IL, and Mary (Randy) Haggermaker of Alabama, and 2 brothers; Michael (Jessica) Leahy of Canada and Patrick (Carol) Leahy of Joliet, IL. He was preceded in death by his father.
Visitation will be held Friday February 10 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in the chapel of the Derrick Funeral Home, 800 Park Dr., Lake Geneva, WI. Private family services will be held.
