Stewart Winston Young

February 1, 1957 — July 17, 2021

Stewart Young, beloved husband of Heidi (Nelson), father of Sara (Henrik Sørensen), brother of Brad, dog dad of Teddy, and loyal friend to many, passed away Saturday, July 17th, after his courageous battle with cancer.  Anyone who knew Stew will remember him as a kind, generous, fun-loving man who always put others first.  His charismatic smile, friendly blue eyes, and genial sense of humor put one at ease and warmed the hearts of many.

Stew was born February1, 1957, in Chicago Heights, IL to the late Theodore Jr. (T.A.) and Sally (McGehee) Young.  He grew up with loving grandparents, aunts and uncles.  Here he also formed childhood friendships that to this day remain steadfast and true.  Together Stew and his friends lived an adventurous life on the south side, loving the White Sox along with the Bears and Blackhawks.  Stew and his friends graduated from Homewood-Flossmoor and continued their adventures through their college years and well beyond.  They enjoyed countless fun times and especially reminisced about their special trip to Ireland.

Stewart was highly respected in the fire protection industry and made an indelible mark, both nationally and in Wisconsin.  With close to 40 years of service, Stew was a sales force to be reckoned with.  He loved learning from and sharing his knowledge with others.  From his beginning days at Aeroquip and Allied Tube to starting his own company--Service Sprinkler Supply with Susan Young--to then working for Central Sprinkler (later acquired by Tyco Fire Protection), Globe, and Victaulic, Stew was valued and admired.  Customers and colleagues alike formed lasting friendships with Stew, many spanning decades and offering countless memories.

Stew was an adventurous soul who loved to travel.   He was an avid fisherman fortunate enough to have fished amazing waters, both near and far.  Fishing brought Stew great happiness, starting back when he would fish the lakes of northern Minnesota with his grandfather.  It was ultimately the Canadian waters of Lac Seul that Stew most loved to fish.  Stewart was also well known as a golf enthusiast.  He was a founding member of the Geneva National Golf Club where in his 25-year membership he was a two-time club champion.  He enjoyed many great rounds with many great friends.  He was known for his effortless swing, Captain and Diet, and an infectious laugh you couldn’t help but love. Stew appreciated quiet times as well and found solace outdoors, doing simple things like chopping wood, riding his ATV, planting trees, or walking Teddy along the shores of Lake Geneva.

In lieu of flowers, kindly consider making a charitable donation in Stew’s memory to Ascension Columbia St. Mary’s Regional Burn Center or to the Professional Fire Fighters of Wisconsin’s charitable foundation program, Summer Camp for Burn Injured Youth.  Stew would be honoured by your support of burn-injury care, awareness and prevention.  Alas, you may also consider supporting the American Cancer Society in its mission to free the world from cancer.

Visitation will be held Tuesday evening, August 24th, from 4:30-7:30 at Derrick Funeral Home, 800 Park Drive, Lake Geneva, WI.
