Stanley James Hilgendorf, born August 2, 1939, passed away peacefully on July 14, 2026, at the age of 86. He leaves behind a profound legacy marked by Christian faith, kindness, and unwavering commitment to his family, his students, his church, and his community.
Stanley was the beloved husband of the late Diane Hilgendorf, and the cherished son of Arthur and Nina Hilgendorf, both of whom he now joins in eternal rest. He is survived by his devoted children: Terry & Karen Hilgendorf, Tim & Beth Hilgendorf, Trish Campbell, Tracie & Tom Hueske, and Tadd & Tina Hilgendorf along with 13 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. Stanley’s family was his greatest pride, and his enduring love and wisdom will forever remain in their hearts.
A proud graduate of Tomahawk High School in 1958, Stanley continued his education at UW Stout, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in education. These formative years set the foundation for a lifelong passion for teaching and guiding young people. Stanley dedicated over 50 years as a Driver's Education instructor at Badger High School, where he earned the respect and admiration of colleagues and students alike. His passion for athletics led him to serve as a baseball coach at Badger High School for 34 years, shaping the talents and character of many aspiring athletes.
Stanley’s life was marked not only by his commitment to education and sports, but also by his personal achievements that spoke to his extraordinary abilities. He was drafted by the Atlanta Braves, a testament to his remarkable talent and dedication as an athlete.
Outside of his professional life, Stanley was a faithful member of First Evangelical Lutheran Church, where he and Diane were married in 1964. He found great joy in the simple pleasures—he was an avid fisherman, bowler, and enjoyed friendly games of Pinochle and cards with friends and loved ones. These hobbies brought him camaraderie and happiness, and his laughter and competitive spirit brightened many gatherings.
Family and friends are invited to honor Stanley’s life during visitation hours on Sunday, July 19, 2026, from 12:00 PM to 4:00 PM at Derrick Funeral Home & Cremation Services, 800 Park Dr, Lake Geneva, WI 53147.
