Sandra Lea (Spohr) Stewart

Sandy (Sandra) Stewart nee Spohr, Schmitt was born in Chicago to parents Laverne (Kloss) and Raymond Spohr on March 8, 1945. Mother to Gwen (Steven) Medford and Sara (Scott Petersen) Schmitt and proud grandmother to Emily and Alec Medford.

Sandy was active in the Catholic Church, attending St. Joseph’s Church in Lyons. She participated in Bible studies, Catholic Daughters, Magnificat, and taught religious education. She loved reading and learning, earning a bachelor of arts from Marquette University and teaching Latin at Barrington High School and Marian Central in Illinois and high school English in Wisconsin.

After raising her daughters in Crystal Lake, she became an optician and managed several offices. She later moved to Lake Geneva, WI, where she spent most of her time looking after her beloved grandchildren. She loved traveling, making trips to all 48 states in the continental U.S., and several international destinations.

In addition to her children and grandchildren, she is survived by sister Beverly (Frank) Studnick and their daughters Amy (Jon) Dye and Julie (Peter) Simon, four great nieces and nephews, and brother Raymond (Viara) Spohr, Jr.

She was born into new life on March 22, 2025.

Sandra's funeral Mass service will take place April 10th, 2025 at 11am at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Lyons, WI.

In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be sent to St. Joseph’s Catholic Church in Lyons, WI or the Lake Geneva Public Library.
