Samuel “Sam” F. Clemens, of Williams Bay, Wisconsin, passed away peacefully on March 18, 2026, at Golden Years Lake Geneva. He was 73 years old.
Born on January 29, 1953, in Cincinnati, Ohio, Sam was the beloved son of John F. and Joyce (nee Crawford) Clemens. He spent his childhood in the St. Louis suburb of Webster Groves, where he formed lifelong friendships and values rooted in faith, family, and kindness. Sam graduated from Chaminade College Preparatory School before continuing his education at the University of Dayton.
On June 2, 1979, Sam married the love of his life, Barbara Dreyer, at the Cathedral Basilica of St. Louis. Together they built a beautiful life centered around love, laughter, family, and unwavering devotion to one another. Their 47 years of marriage were a testament to enduring partnership and deep companionship.
Sam was a devoted husband, proud father, and cherished grandfather. He is lovingly survived by his wife, Barb; his children, Alison (Matt) Phillips of Mt. Hood Parkdale, Oregon, Charles F. (Andrea) Clemens of East Troy, Wisconsin, and Ben Clemens of Madison, Wisconsin. His greatest joy came from his grandchildren — Cedar, Ruby, Hans, and Sam — each of whom brought immense pride and happiness into his life.
He will also be deeply missed by his siblings, Tom (Jill) Clemens, Sarah (Tom) Haenni, Tess (Craig) Niehaus, Julie (Tim) Killeen, and Angie (Bret) Rimes, along with many extended family members and dear friends whose lives were enriched by his warmth, humor, and steady presence.
Those who knew Sam will remember him as thoughtful, loyal, and deeply devoted to his family. He carried himself with quiet strength and kindness, always valuing connection, tradition, and time spent with the people he loved most.
A celebration of Sam’s life will be held at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 148 W. Main Street, Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, on Wednesday, June 24, 2026. Visitation will begin at 10:00 a.m. until the time of the Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to The Chicago Lighthouse, 1850 W. Roosevelt Road, Chicago, Illinois 60608, or online at chicagolighthouse.org.
