Ruth Marcella (Hotz) Vergenz

Ruth M. Vergenz, 103, most recently of the Lake Geneva, Wisconsin area passed away on August 27th, 2024 at Mercy Walworth Hospital.

Ruth was born on February 26, 1921 to the late Ernst and Elsa Hotz in Sheboygan, Wisconsin.  Ruth was a member of the graduating class of 1939 from Sheboygan High School.

When the church was still active you could find Ruth at St. John's United Church in Manitowoc, or the local YMCA. She enjoyed playing baseball with the neighborhood boys and also with her father Ernst who played on the Sheboygan team, and ice skating in the winter.  Later in life Ruth took up golf with her 2nd husband Merlin, and together they traveled the country playing at many of the popular courses. Ruth also played team golf at their local course in Juneau, WI.  Ruth was also an avid baker with the most outstanding lemon meringue pie that you could ever have. Ruth was a skilled preserver of all the vegetables she and Merlin grew including canning, freezing and pickling.  Ruth was a skilled seamstress, an avid reader of books covering many different topics,  and had a love of maps and weather information.

Ruth is survived by her one son: Tom (Kathy) Becker; two Grandchildren: Kevin Becker and Carla (Robb) Mentink; and two great-grandchildren Owen and Evan.  Ruth was proceeded in death by her parents, Ernst and Elsa, her brother Kenneth, and one son James Becker.

Private family services are being planned for the fall.
