Ruth H. (Hathorn) Vorpagel

Ruth H. Vorpagel, 96, a lifelong resident of the Lake Geneva area, died Friday October 19, 2012 at Aurora Lakeland Medical Center in Elkhorn, WI. Ruth Helen Hathorn was born in Burlington, WI on February 6, 1919 the daughter of the late Harold and Nora (Grootemat) Hathorn. In 1934 she graduated from Burlington High School in Burlington, WI. She married Raymond Otto; following his death she married William Otto. On September 21, 1985in Elkhorn, WI, she was united in marriage to Leonard Vorpagel; he preceded her in death on October 6, 2009.
Ruth was a member of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lake Geneva and a member of the Ladies Aid. She loved to knit and crochet and enjoyed many happy hours playing cards, especially euchre.
Ruth is survived by: 3 children; Betty (Ron) Johnson of Elkhorn, WI, Raymond Otto of Elkhorn, WI and Dale (Cheryl) Otto of Lake Geneva, WI, 7 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren, and 3 sisters Virginia (Maurice) Becker of Burlington, WI, June Gorecki of Elkhorn, WI and Jane (Carl) Hugg of Elkhorn, WI. She was preceded in death by: a daughter Nancy Gallagher, 3 brothers; Claude, Harold and Wilbur Hathorn and a sister Nancy Bruno.
Services will be held on Wednesday October 24, 2012 at 1:00 p.m. in the chapel of the Derrick Funeral Home in Lake Geneva, WI; Pastor Mark Kaesmeyer of the First Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lake Geneva will officiate. Burial will follow in Burlington Cemetery in Burlington, WI. Visitation will Wednesday at the funeral home from 11:00 a.m. until time of services. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy memorials are requested in Ruth’s name to: the First Evangelical Lutheran Church, 1101 Logan St., Lake Geneva, WI 53147.
