Rita A. Gallagher

Rita A. Gallagher, 89, of Roswell, NM, died Friday April 27, 2014.  She was born September 12, 1924 in Chicago, IL the daughter of the late Edward and Mary (Cowhey) Gallagher.  Rita was a former Sister of Mercy Nun RSM.  She earned her Master’s Degree in education at Loyola University in Chicago.  She went on to be Principal and teacher in Chicago and Iowa Catholic Schools.  In 1974 she moved to Roswell, NM to be with her two sisters and to help children in the public and private schools with a program that raised their level of reading.  Rita devoted her life to her Catholic faith and to all the children she taught and will always be remembered for laughter and a song for every occasion.  She was preceded in death by her brother Owen, 3 sisters; Catherine, Mabel and Mary Gallagher Mahoney and 3 nephews.  She is survived by seven nephews and one niece.
Mass of Christian Burial will be said on Saturday July 19, 2014 at 9:45 a.m. in Saint Bedes Catholic Church, 36455 N.
