Olga M. Haines Blum, 83, of Lake Geneva, WI, died Friday September 20, 2013 at her home. The former Olga Marie Fuentes was born in Ciudad Frontera, Coahuila, Mexico on June 30, 1930 the daughter of the late Tomas and Josefina (Frausto) Fuentes. She came to the United States in 1944from Mexico. She became a novitiate in the convent of the Teresian Sisters at the age of 16 where she later taught elementary education and served as a nun until 1954 when she left to take care of her ailing father in Mexico. She returned to New Orleans, LA and married Paul Cruz Sr. in 1956 where they raised three children until moving to the Lake Geneva area in 1969. She worked as a production planner for Nestle Foods in Burlington, WI for over 20 years.
She was a member of Saint Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Lake Geneva. She was a member of Chapter 153 Order of Eastern Star in Burlington, WI and a member the American Legion Auxiliary to Frank Kresen American Legion Post #24 in Lake Geneva.
Olga is survived by: Stanley Blum her husband of 12 years, 3 children; Yolanda (Jon) Cruz Chamberlain of Lake Geneva, WI, Paul (Susie) Cruz of Ellicott City, MD and Vicki-Anne (Cole) Jacobs of Lake Geneva, WI, 8 grandchildren; Samantha (Doug) Dalsing, John Cruz, Kristina Cruz, Kaitlyn Cruz, Alexis Cruz, Rex Jacobs, Luke Jacobs and Jed Jacobs and brother Virgil F. (Helen) Garcia of Ontario, CA. She will be missed by the daughters of Stanley and Genevieve's only son the late Glenn R. Blum; Courtney (Richard) VanBoxtel of Oneida, WI and Erika (Jeffery) Olson of Appleton, WI and Olga and Stanley's only great-grandchildren; Kayla, Brynn, and Tyler VanBoxtel and Anika Olson.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be said on Friday September 27, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Saint Francis de Sales Catholic Church in Lake Geneva; Father Jim Scheurman will officiate. Olga’s family will receive visitors on Thursday from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. in the chapel of Derrick Funeral Home and Cremation Services where an Easter Star service will conducted at 6:30 p.m. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy memorials are requested in Olga’s name to: The Olga Marie Fuentes Service Scholarship Fund C/O BMO Harris Bank.
