Michael John Hayes

Michael J. Hayes, 68, of the Genoa City area passed away at his home on October 24, 2023.

Michael was born on February 1, 1955, to the late Roy and Dorothy (Kroll) Hayes in Chicago, Illinois.  Michael was one of four children that Roy and Dorothy would raise.  On August 6th, 1983 Michael was united into marriage to Monica Hayes.

Michael was a dedicated Green Bay Packers fan.  He enjoyed fishing, playing Beatles songs on his guitar, riding his Harley, and adding as much Harley Davidson apparel to his collection as he could get. Michael was a proud grandfather and loved to watch his first grandson play sports, and after he retired, he was the first one at the soccer field on game days to cheer him on.  When his second grandson came around, he knew that he would forever be Grandpa’s “Buddy” and could always put a smile on his face even in the worst of times.  Michael was a proud dog dad to his “Baby Girl, Bryndi”.  The most important thing in Michael’s world was being able to spend time with his beloved family.

Michael is survived by his wife of 40 years, Monica, and his daughter Shannon (Timothy) Schinker.  Michael is also survived by his two grandsons: Reed Elliott and Garrett Michael Schinker.  His three siblings along with their spouses survive him: Catherine and Robert Kompanowski, George and Debbie Hayes, and Patrick and Donna Hayes. Michael’s mother-in-law Joanna Rakoczy along with his sister-in-law and her spouse: Eva and Jack Zimny; and his nieces and nephews: Amanda, Caitlin, Kelly, Kevin, Greg, Kimberly, Christopher, Greg, and Bobbie all survive him.  Michael is preceeded in death by his parents: Roy and Dorothy and his father-in-law Stanley.

A gathering of friends and family will be held on Saturday November 11th, 2023, from 12:00pm till 3:00pm in the main chapel of Derrick Funeral Home.
