Martin H. Smith, 66, of Lake Geneva, WI, died Sunday August 17, 2014 at Aurora Lakeland Medical Center. Martin Henry Smith was born June 17, 1948 in Princeton, NJ the son of Harry and Madlyn (Boesch) Smith. He graduated from Bennett High School in Salisbury, MD in 1966. He then earned a B.A. and a M.A. in Sociology University of Delaware and then a P.H.D. in Sociology at Ohio State University. On June 14, 1969 in Newark, DE he was united in marriage to the former Carol Gruber. He had worked as a researcher for the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America for many years. He was a member of Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church and former member of the church counsel. He was a former member of the Lake Geneva Orchestra playing the saxophone and the bassoon; he was a former member and chairman of the Lake Geneva Parking Commission.
Martin is survived by: Carol, his wife of 45 years, a son Andrew W. (Melody) Smith of Chicago, IL, a granddaughter Madison, his mother Madlyn Smith of Salisbury, MD a sister Deborah (Donald) Dashiell of Salisbury, MD, 2 brothers; William (Yvonne) Smith of Harrisburg, PA and Jeffery (Anita) Smith of Saint Cloud, FL and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his father Harry.
Memorials services will be held on Thursday August 21, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Immanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church in Lake Geneva; Pastors Mark and Mary Ann Moller-Gunderson will officiate. In lieu of others expressions of sympathy memorials are requested in Martin’s name to the American Cancer Society or the E.L.C.A.
