Martha R. Tibbitts, 85, of Delavan passed away on Saturday December 28th, 2013 at Golden Years Nursing Home in Walworth, WI.
Martha was born on February 6th, 1928 to the late John C. and Marie (Lehner) Williams in East Chicago, Indiana. Martha was a 1946 graduate of Roosevelt High School in East Chicago. Martha attended Cornell College in Mt. Vernon, Iowa where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1950. Martha took a teaching position in Hebron, Illinois where she taught everything from Spanish to girls’ physical education for 26 years.
Martha met her husband Wally in Hebron and they were united in marriage on December 17th, 1955. Martha and Wally lived in Hebron until 1984 when they moved to Lake Geneva to begin their retirement years.
Martha was an avid gardener, a competitive golfer (Hillmoor Ladies’ Club Champion) and a student of bridge. Martha volunteered at Lakeland Hospital assisting with the Lifeline program and was active member in the Hebron Service Club. Martha and Wally enjoyed traveling and found their “winter home” in Gulf Shores, Alabama, on one of Wally’s many naval reunions.
Martha is survived by her husband of 58 years, Wally. Martha is also survived by her daughter Gayle and her son-in-law Jay of Hickory, N.C. They thank each one of you for your loving support during Martha’s illness.
Memorial service for Martha will be held on Sunday June 8th, 2014 at 3:00p.m. in the chapel of the Derrick Funeral Home and Cremation Service; Pastor Soon Sun Lee will be presiding. Visitation will be held immediately after the service till 5:00p.m.
In lieu of other expressions of sympathy Martha’s family has asked that you make a donation in her name to the Hebron United Methodist Church (Children’s Programs) or to the Aurora Visiting Nurses Association Hospice.
