Lawrence Rayner Jr.

Larry was born April 10, 1932 in Chicago, Illinois to Lawrence Rayner and Oris Rayner.  He attended Swift Elementary School, Chicago Latin High School, and Amherst College, Amherst, MA>

Larry Joined the U.S. Air Forces as a 1st Lieutenant in 1954.  After graduating from the Air Force Aircraft Maintenance School he was assigned to Patrick Air Force Base, Florida, now called The Kennedy Space Center.

Larry met Sally Garvy there and they married on April 12, 1958 in Melbourne, Florida, she survives him.  also surviving are their daughter, Martha Rayner and grandsons Alex and Eryk.  Larry was preceded in death by his parents Lawrence Rayner and Oris Gottlieb Rayner.

Larry worked the family business, The Rayner Company, for many years while developing other business interest, including Rayner & Linn Scott, Inc., all related in some way to the forest product industry.

Larry and Sally moved to Northfield, Illinois in 1964 where they settled in and raised their daughter.  Long active in his community, Northfield, Larry served for many years on the Village Board, The Northfield School Board and the Judiciary Committee, the Traffic and Transportation Committee, the organization named COWS, (Citizen Opposed to Williow Road Superhighway). Larry was an avid tennis player at Middlefork Tennis Club.

Larry earned his pilot's license ini 1955 and flew his plane over most of the U.S., Canada, and the Bahamas for business and pleasure for just short of 60 years.  Family, work, public service, tennis, traveling, friendships and flying filled his days.  After retirement in 1998 he moved to Lake Geneva splitting his time between Lake Geneva and Abaco, Bahamas.

A Celebration of Life will take place 11:00am, Saturday May 18 at Derrick Funeral Home, 800 Park Drive, Lake Geneva, Wisconsin,  Pastor Bill Shereos officiating.  There will be a visitation before the service beginning at 10:00a.m.  Committal will be at Oak Hill Cemetery followed by a luncheon at Grand Geneva.
