Julian Millet Hawes left this world on June, 8, 2026, wishing for just one more time to share a glass of wine with his wonderful children, Nancy, Susie, and Greg and their dear spouses.
He wanted to cheer on his amazing grandchildren Alex, Andi, Zack, Haley, Jack, and Meghan, and their significant others! A recent joy has been the addition of two handsome great-grandsons, Henry and Dawson.
He wanted one more time to take his favorite "Girlie" and loving wife of over 40 years, Julia Brannon, for a ride in his little red convertible and go for ice cream. He wanted to one more time sit on the couch in the evening and hold her hand while they watched Fox News. Their devotion to one another will never end…
He wished for one more time to go to a football game and root for the Fighting Illini, Whitewater Warhawks and The Bears!
He wanted again to put his feet in the sand on the Texas Gulf Coast with his “sister” Ann, and eat some good Cajun food with Bow, Charlie, Anthony and Frannie and their fun families.
He wanted one more time to embrace his nephews and niece Winslow, David, and Cathy. He wanted to enjoy his French family, Sylviane and Richard, Colette and Andre, Paulette and Maurice, and others for all of the joys they brought to his life.
He just wanted one more time to play the herding game with his beloved dog Bailey.
Jay loved life...his many dear friends, relatives, Guys Night Out group, & the challenging golf courses at Geneva National.
He has been proud to be a seventh generations direct Descendant of John Hart, a Signer of the Declaration of Independence, and the grandson of the famous stained-glass artisan, Louis Julian Millet. Jay was born on August 29, 1932, in Evanston Hospital, to Hardin Houghton Hawes and Virginia Millet Hawes.
Jay served proudly in the United States Army during the Korean conflict stationed in Germany. Jay loved the United States of America!
He attended Grinnell College and was a very proud alumni of the University of Illinois, ILL-INI!
Jay’s only job as an adult was the 45 successful years he spent as account executive and vice president at Merrill Lynch.
He leaves us full of joy for the wonderful life that he has been so lucky to have had and to have shared with so many. His motto was “you can rest when you’re dead “. The time has finally come for him to get some well-deserved rest!
