Joyce Elizabeth (Leonard) Schmidt

"God takes the good ones fast"

Joyce E. Schmidt, 77, of Lake Geneva died unexpectedly at her home on Saturday March 9th, 2019. She had been receiving treatment for lymphoma of the brain since January this year.

Joyce Elizabeth Leonard was born to the late William and Mary (Bray) Leonard on June 6th, 1941 in Belvidere, Illinois. Joyce was a member of the first graduating class from Badger High School in Lake Geneva in 1959. On March 11th, 1961 she was united into marriage to Leland W. Schmidt at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Slades Corners, Wisconsin.

Joyce was a woman with a big laugh and an even bigger heart. She was a member of the Spirit of the Lakes Sweet Adelines women’s barbershop chorus for over 30 years and served on the altar guild at Immanuel Lutheran Church. Joyce loved a good fish fry, a cold margarita and loved playing cards with card club and her grandchildren. She loved spending time laughing with friends and family. Out of everything that Joyce did, nothing filled her heart more than spending time with family and friends, always having room for one more at the table.

Joyce is survived by her husband of 58 years, Leland.  2 children survive Joyce: Daniel (Angie) Schmidt of Lake Geneva and Diana (Eric Struve) Schmidt of Milwaukee. 5 grandchildren: Hollynd (TJ Bakken) Schmidt, Josh (Caitlin) Schmidt, Brady (Brianna Falk) Schmidt, Milo Sieger, and Ginny Struve all survive Joyce. 1 brother: Bill (Geri) Leonard Jr. of Lake Geneva also survives Joyce. Joyce was preceded in death by her sister Mary Lou Esmond and her brother Ron Leonard.

Services for Joyce will be held on Saturday March 16th, 2019 at 12:00pm at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Lake Geneva, WI. Visitation will be held from 10:00am till the time of service at the church.
