John Maas, 85, of Lake Geneva, WI formerly of Chicago, IL, died Friday March 15, 2013 at Aurora Lakeland Medical Center in Elkhorn. John Maas was born on May 1, 1927 in Chicago, IL the son of the late Joseph and Clara (Hastretter) Maas. He was a Veteran of World War II serving with the U.S. Army in Europe. On July 2, 1949 in Chicago, IL he was united in marriage to the former Loretta Celmer. He had worked of many years as a bartender at Thumbs Up. He was a member of Frank Kresen American Legion Post #24 in Lake Geneva. He loved to fish, golf, and play horseshoes; however, he greatly enjoyed smoking cigars with friends. His greatest enjoyment was spent with his wife, daughters and grandchildren.
John is survived by: Loretta, his wife of 63 years, 3 daughters; Jacqueline (John) Pytel of Libertyville, IL, Renee’ (Robert) Civitella of Hawthorn Woods, IL, and Patricia (Thomas) Kormos of Lake Zurich, IL, 3 grandchildren; Erin (Paul) Milas, Clara Kormos and Robert Civitella. He was preceded in death by; his parents, and 2 brothers Edwin and Joseph.
Mass of Christian Burial will be said on Tuesday March 19, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Saint Francis deSales Catholic Church in Lake Geneva; Father Jim Scheurman will officiate. Burial will follow in Saint Francis deSales Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 3:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. in the chapel of Derrick Funeral Home in Lake Geneva.
