James E. Purcell, 79, of Lake Geneva, WI, died Friday May 11, 2012 at Aurora Lakeland medical Center in Elkhorn, WI.  James Edward Purcell was born in Dixon, IL on September 3, 1932 the son of the late Bryant and Margaret (Niman) Purcell.  He graduated from Oregon, IL High School in 1950; then from The University of Illinois in Champaign, IL with a degree in marketing.  He was a proud member of Phi Gamma Delta Fraternity.   He was a Veteran of the United States Army serving in the Counter Intelligence Corps in Germany.  On February 4, 1955 in Silver Springs, MD he was united in marriage to the former Diane Fox.  At the time of his death he was the treasurer for Lake Barrington, IL.   He formerly was the C.F.O. for Peerless of America in Chicago, IL. He was an avid and talented golfer.  He loved his grandchildren and his happiest moments were spent with them.  He was a former member and past-president of the Jaycees in Deerfield, IL.  He was a member and treasurer of the Lake Geneva Lions Club.
Jim is survived by: Diane his wife of 57 years, 5 children; Jared (Cynthia) Purcell of Hinsdale, IL, Juli Power of Dallas, TX, Gregory (Julie) Purcell of Saint Charles, IL, Heather (Peter) Richter of Hinsdale, IL and Tina (Marc) Schwartz of Grayslake, IL and 14 grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother Thomas.
Mass of Christian Burial will be said on Wednesday May 16 at 11:00 a.m. at Saint Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 148 Main St. in Lake Geneva, WI. The Purcell family will receive visitors on Tuesday from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at the Derrick Funeral Home 800 Park Dr. Lake Geneva, WI.  In Lieu of other expressions of sympathy memorials are requested in Jim’s name to:  Gift of Hope, 425 Spring Lake Dr., Itasca, IL 60143.  To sign the on-line guest registry please: view/sign condolence book at the bottom of this page.
