Gloria Joan Mohar left us peacefully on May 13, 2020 at the age of 88. Gloria was born on May 17, 1931 in Chicago, Illinois to the late Bennett Michael Gongola and Pauline Rita (Zak) Gongola and was the loving sister of Richard Bennett Gongola.
Gloria was united in marriage to Joseph T. Mohar on May 9, 1953 in Chicago. Joseph spent 22 years in the United States Navy and the family traveled throughout the United States during his years of service. Gloria spent her working years as an accounts payable clerk and caring for her children. Together, Gloria and Joseph enjoyed playing poker and cribbage, antiquing, collecting Big Little Books and traveling throughout the United States. Gloria’s love of travel was evident by her goal to visit all 50 states, which she proudly accomplished!
Gloria enjoyed spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren, and passed on many traditions of her Polish heritage. She enjoyed playing the viola and the piano and had a great love of opera, classical music, crossword puzzles and cross stitching. Gloria shared her love of music and quick wit with those whose lives she touched. Gloria had a keen interest in genealogy and especially researching her Polish roots. Gloria was fascinated by the trees of prior generations. Gloria was preceded in death by her devoted parents, her loving husband and her dear brother. She is survived by her children Patricia Mohar, Warren (Linda) Mohar, Joseph M. Mohar, Karin Mohar, Jo Anne (William) Vande Voorde, David Mohar; her grandchildren, Justin Mohar, Christopher Mohar, Joseph T. Mohar II, Miranda Morin, Karina Shimer, Crystal Meinzer, Tiffany Kubat, Michele Gutierrez Mohar, Michael Ian Losinski, Kayla Gaffey, Isaac Mohar, Kelsey Whitchelo, Aaron Whitchelo and Brittanee Mohar; and fifteen great-grandchildren.
Gloria will be greatly missed and loved forever.
A celebration of Gloria’s life will be held at a future date when family and friends can gather again. Please check back for updates.
