Gail Krueger, age 63, passed away peacefully on April 6, 2026, in Elkhorn, Wisconsin, surrounded by her children and grandchildren after a courageous 5½-year battle with pancreatic cancer.
Born on November 24, 1962, in Highland Park, Illinois, Gail was the beloved daughter of Edna and David Krueger. She grew up alongside her brothers, Bruce and Gordon, and was preceded by her brother Keith, who passed away in infancy. Family remained a central and deeply cherished part of her life.
Gail graduated from Glenbrook South High School in 1981. She was known for her vibrant spirit and love of sports, spending many years playing softball and later earning recognition as an ultimate frisbee champion.
In 1983, Gail began her career with Moore Business Forms, where she built lasting friendships and remained until 1995. The relationships she formed there became a steady pillar during one of the most difficult periods of her life. Within just a few months, Gail endured profound loss and hardship. She lost her mother in October 1993, her infant daughter to leukemia in December 1993, and received her own breast cancer diagnosis in January 1994. Through it all, she demonstrated extraordinary strength and ultimately overcame her battle with breast cancer.
Gail later earned her Medical Assistant licensure in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She went on to dedicate several years to caring for others through her work at Great Lakes Dermatology in Pleasant Prairie.
Above all, Gail was a devoted mother, grandmother, sister, and friend. She is survived by her brother, Bruce Krueger (Ginny); her children, Brittany Christensen (Cody), Autumn Suess, Christy Benedetto (Andy), and Derek Pontel; and her cherished grandchildren, Brooklyn Hansen, Taylor Hansen, Haylie Hansen, Ashlyn Christensen, Ara Suess, Lilliana Benedetto, and Oliviero Benedetto.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Edna and David Krueger; her brothers, Gordon Krueger and Keith Krueger; and her beloved daughter, Corey Suess.
Gail will be remembered for her kindness, strength, and the deep love she had for her family and friends. She maintained lifelong friendships, many dating back to her school years, which remained a constant source of joy throughout her life.
Her legacy extends far beyond her immediate family. Through the discovery of the BRCA2 gene within her family, Gail helped bring clarity to a history of cancer and empowered loved ones to pursue genetic testing and preventative care. That impact will continue for generations.
Gail’s life was one of resilience, compassion, and unwavering love. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew and loved her.
Services for Gail will be held on April 11, 2026, with a wake from 10:00 AM to 11:30 AM at N.H. Scott & Hanekamp Funeral Home, 1240 Waukegan Road in Glenview, Illinois, followed by church services at 12:00 PM at Immanuel Lutheran Church, 1850 Chestnut Avenue in Glenview, Illinois.
