Fred W. Leonard

Fred W. Leonard, 76, of Waterman and Warrenville, IL and Walworth, WI, formerly of Glen Ellyn, IL, died Saturday November 17, 2012 at his home in Walworth, WI.  Fred William Leonard was born in Geneva, IL on February 18, 1936 the son of the late Elmer W. and Evelyn A. (Wilke) Leonard.  He graduated from Glenbard West High School in 1954. He attended Illinois Wesleyan University in Bloomington, IL and then graduated from Worsham College of Mortuary Science in 1956.  He was the owner and operator of the Leonard Memorial Home since 1958.  On October 17, 1987 in Geneva, IL he was united in marriage to the former Geraldine Johnson.
He was a Veteran serving with the United States Marine Corps.  He was a former member of the Glen Ellyn Rotary Club and a former member of the First Methodist Church of Glen Ellyn, IL and had been a member of Boy Scout Troop 45 of the church.  He was a Past President of the Glen Ellyn Chamber of Commerce.  He was Citizen of the Year for Glen Ellyn in 1976.  He was on a number of advisory boards for civic organizations in Glen Ellyn using his expertise.  He was on the Board of Directors for Forest Hill Cemetery for many years and served as Chairman.  He was a member of the Glen Ellyn Volunteer Fire company for 38 years.  He was active in the Illinois Funeral Directors Association, holding regional directorship for 3 terms.  He received the I.F.D.A.  Distinguished Funeral Director Award in 1998.  He was a member of the DuPage County Funeral Directors Association and served as President for two terms.  He was a member of the Linn Presbyterian Church in Lake Geneva, WI and served on the Fourth of July committee, United Way, and Salvation Army.
Fred is survived by: Geri his wife of 25 years, 7 children; John (Catherine) Leonard of Batavia, IL, Susan Anne Leonard of Albuquerque, NM, Steven (Julie) Leonard of Baileys Harbor, WI and Kathleen (Darrell) Williams of South Elgin, IL, Susan Beth (Marius) Ellis of Waimia, HI, Stephen (Jennifer) Hunt of New Haven, UT, and Scott Hunt of Waterman, IL, 12 grandchildren; Nathan, Abbey, Nicholas, Megan, Zachary, Tyler (Sammi), Joshua, Kelly, Jenney, Megan, Britany and Saylor, a great-grandchild Ily, 2 brothers; Ronald (Nancy) Leonard and Richard (Judy Fran) Leonard and a sister Carolyn Leonard all of Glen Ellyn, IL.  He was preceded in death by his parents.
Graveside funeral services will be held on Wednesday November 21, 2012 at 2:30 p.m. in Forest Hill Cemetery in Glen Ellyn, IL.  Visitation will be Wednesday from 10:30 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. in the chapel of Derrick Funeral Home, 800 Park Dr., Lake Geneva, WI.  To sign the on-line guest registry please click/view condolence book at the bottom of this page.
