Francis C. Purtell

Francis C. Purtell, 94, of Naperville, IL formerly of Lake Geneva, WI, died Sunday March 11, 2012 in Sun City, AZ.  Francis Charles Purtell was born in Crystal Spring, Saskatchewan, Canada on September 28, 1917 the son of the late Stephen and Lucille (LaRoche) Purtell.   He attended Northwestern University and played football with his longtime friend, Jack Ryan.   He was a lifelong Northwestern fan.  As a young man, he served with the Merchant Marine.
Fran was a homebuilder in the north suburbs of Chicago.  He was a longtime Rotary Club member.  He loved Ireland and all things Irish.  He had a witty sense humor and was a true gentleman.
Fran is survived by 4 daughters: Sarah (Robert) Murphy, Susan (Ron) Kullick, Elizabeth Purtell and Kathryn Purtell, his wife Doris and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and nieces and nephews. Fran was preceded in death by his first wife, Jane (Cooley) Purtell and his parents.
