Eva Knowlton Sorock passed away peacefully on October 12, 2025. Eva was born on September 14, 1946, in Elmhurst, IL. She grew up in Winnetka, IL, graduating from New Trier High School. She was a graduate of Mount Holyoke College, the University of Colorado, where she earned a Master’s degree in journalism, and the University of Chicago, where she earned her M.B.A.
A devoted wife and mother, Eva is survived by: her husband of 51 years, Herbert Sorock; her children and grandchildren, Anne Sorock Segal (Jeremy), parents of Andrew, Emily, Naomi, Rebekah, Simon, Samuel, and baby Segal; John “Jack” Sorock; Carolyn Sorock Settanni (Michael), parents of Beatrice, Elaine, and Lucia; and her sisters Jackie Benson and Lucy Hovis.
After interning for U.S. Representative Donald Rumsfeld, Eva worked for Reader’s Digest in Chappaqua, NY, before returning to Chicago to work for Harris Bank. Eva and Herbert met at the University of Chicago and married, moving to Germany for Herbert’s work, where the couple lived for two years in the small town of Kronberg. Upon returning to the U.S., they settled in Wilmette, IL, where they raised their three children.
Eva was a committed Christian who passed her faith to her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed traveling, reading, history, cooking, gardening, playing bridge with her friends, spending countless hours with her grandchildren, and was an engaging and consummate conversationalist. Her creative works included intricate homemade costumes, handcrafted replica Fabergé eggs, watercolor painting, and her glorious garden. Eva fondly recalled memories of a road trip through Mexico with her sister Jackie in their VW Beetle, and months spent traveling in Athens, Greece, and across Europe.
Eva served her community in many ways, including being elected to two terms on the Wilmette School Board, where she advocated tirelessly for rigorous standards, ethical stewardship, and fiscal responsibility. She was very active with the New Trier Republicans, hosted countless events and fundraisers for conservative leaders, and founded the Republican Heroes 2000 PAC. She was a passionate advocate for Constitutional principles, writing many editorials and championing various community causes. She enjoyed volunteering for her annual church rummage sale and was a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution.
