Daniel W. Corboy

Daniel W. Corboy, 86 of Naples, FL and Lake Geneva, WI, died Wednesday September 19, 2012 at Avow Hospice in Naples following a long battle with failing health.  He was a winter resident of Naples, FL since 1994 and had a summer home in Lake Geneva, WI.  Daniel William Corboy was born in Chicago, IL on January 5, 1926 the son of the late Harold and Marie (Hartnett) Corboy.  He graduated from Saint George High School in Chicago in 1943.  Just before receiving his high school diploma he enlisted in the United States Marine Corps.  He saw the worst of the war from a foxhole on Okinawa and the islands during World War II.  He was honorably discharged in 1946.  After the war he earned his BA Degree from Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI.  On November 28, 1959 in Chicago, IL he was united in marriage to the former Frances “Nancy” Great.  Dan joined the Chicago Police Department and was an undercover agent in the Narcotics Division.    He was the bodyguard for teamster union boss, Abatta, in the 1960’s before being promoted to Captain.  On his days off he worked in construction and for a talent agency doing photos for catalog and newspaper ads.  He also was an extra in TV commercials and movies.  In 1989 he retired from the Chicago Police Department with the rank of Captain.  He was an avid handball player who won several trophies for his expertise and just the will to win.
Dan is survive by: Nancy his wife of 52 years, 2 children; Karen Corboy of Villa Park, IL and Daniel (Jacqueline) Corboy M.D. of Wilmette, IL, 4 grandchildren; Jordana (John) Larsen of Warrenville, IL, Anthony Lorenzo, Firefighter/Paramedic of Oakbrook Terrace, IL, Colin and Aidan Corboy both of Wilmette, IL, a sister-in-law Mary Dempsey of Chicago, IL and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by: his parents, a brother Philip Corboy and his sister and her husband Margaret and Larry Kotin.
Memorial Mass will be said Saturday October 6, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. in Saint Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 148 main St. in Lake Geneva, WI.  Visitation will be Saturday in church from 10:00 a.m. until time of services.  Inurnment will be in All Saints Cemetery in DesPlaines, IL.
