Celia Escobedo Moreno, long-time resident of Lake Geneva, passed away with family at her side on March 6, 2025. Celia and her husband, Delfino, arrived in Lake Geneva in 1961 to work at the Otto Jacobs Company, where Delfino worked until his retirement. Their first son, Mario, was born followed by another son, Daniel, a year later. They were joined by Celia’s mother, Ramona Escobedo and welcomed a daughter, Celia Yasmin, and then another daughter, Valentina. Celia and Delfino worked managing a small collection of summer cottages near Big Foot Beach. In 1973, they purchased a piece of land and Delfino, with his sons helping, built their own home.
Celia worked at the Hevi-Duty factory until her retirement. She and Delfino then spent many happy years visiting and traveling with their children. They also traveled frequently to Mexico to visit family.
Celia was a dedicated member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Elkhorn. She was beloved by her fellow church members, particularly the children, and was devoted to her faith and community there.
Growing up, Celia dreamed of a home and family of her own. She found great joy in being near her children and grandchildren, which now number eight. She was able to spend many months with her last grandchild, born in August 2024.
She led by her quiet example, her belief in the essential goodness of the people she met and knew, by her generous spirit, by her dedication to family and friends and her deep faith in God.
Celia leaves behind her husband of 65 years, Delfino, brother Jose Luis (Susan) Morales of Darien, her sons, Mario (Dina) Moreno of Seattle, Daniel (Jean) Moreno of Minneapolis, daughters Celia Yasmin (Jason Staudenraus) Moreno of Seattle, Valentina Moreno of Springfield, Virginia, and Heather Garecht, also of Virginia, who she welcomed as another beloved daughter. She also leaves her cherished grandchildren, Luisa, Thomas, Sam, Julia, Isabella, Marcos, Katherine, and Camilo, as well as several nieces and nephews.
