Catherine H. Reichert, 100, of El Cajon, CA, formerly of Lake Geneva, died Monday November 11, 2013 in El Cajon. The former Catherine Hellstern was born in Chicago, IL on June 26, 1913 the daughter of the late Anton and Josephine (Schillinger) Hellstern. On January 17, 1933 in Chicago, IL she was united in marriage to Samuel M. Reichert; he preceded her in death on October 11, 1964. She and Samuel moved from Chicago to Lake Geneva in 1943, they lived in town and converted the family farm south of town into a mobile home park. She worked nights for the telephone company in Lake Geneva and later for Montgomery Ward and as a personal shopper for Marshall Fields. Following Samuel’s death she moved to El Cajon to be near her daughter. Catherine was a devout Catholic attending Mass daily. She joined the St. Joseph Secular Order of Discalced Carmelites, receiving the Scapular in 1975 taking the devotional name Mary of the Immaculate Heart; in 1977 she made her Definitive Promise. Catherine loved to sew, knit, play the marimba and help care for her grandchildren.
Catherine is survived by: two children; Jeanette (Thomas) Curran of El Cajon, CA and Michael (Barbara) Reichert of Freeport, IL, 13 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great-grandchildren, a sister Ann Sertzel of Lake Geneva, WI, 2 brothers; John Hellstern of Antioch, IL and Andrew Hellstern of Chicago, IL. She was preceded in death by 4 brothers; Geza Hellstern, Anton Hellstern, Frank Hellstern, and Joe Hellstern.
Mass of Christian Burial will be said on Friday November 22, 2013 at 11:30 a.m. at Saint Francis de Sales Catholic Church, 148 Main St., Lake Geneva, WI; Father Jim Scheurman will officiate. Burial will follow in Saint Francis de Sales Cemetery. Visitation will be Friday in church from 10:30 a.m. until time of services. Memorials are requested in Catherine’s name to: Saint Francis de Sales School Angel Fund. Derrick Funeral Home in Lake Geneva is assisting the Reichert family with arrangements.
