Billy Glenn Huggins

Billy Glenn Huggins. Born to Josie Merriwether and Billy Huggins on December 20th, 1940, passed peacefully on April 12th, 2025. He was a father, a husband, a grandfather, and a friend to everyone he met. He leaves behind his combined 11 children, 12 grandchildren, and 16 great grandchildren.

He loved the south and his home state of Alabama (roll tide!), southern breakfast (the Billy special; two eggs over easy with toast, grits, and coffee is how he met his late wife Nancy, a waitress at the diner that he frequented), and he loved nature and could name any tree that he saw. He befriended squirrels, dogs, and most of all, his beloved cats.

He served in and received an honorable discharge from the US Air Force. He was a soft spoken gentleman, a mischief maker, a flirt, and a sensitive soul. He was devoted to his family, he was a loyal husband, and he was full of compassion for all living things.

He had a wonderful laugh, a soft southern drawl, and he was a truly unique soul; sensitive, unwavering, and self sacrificing.

He showed us all what it meant to live a life full of kindness and the value of a good work ethic. He was stubborn until the very end and while he suffered from dementia for the last several years of his life, he knew that he was loved.

He survived his wife, Nancy , his nanny goat, who passed in November of 2023. We hope that they may rest together now, dancing in the kitchen, poking fun at one another, and arguing like only a couple of 45 years could. Rest in peace, our Billy goat. Until we meet again.

Services for Billy will be held Thursday May 29th, 2025 at 1:00pm in the main chapel of Derrick Funeral Home.  Visitation will be held on May 29th, 2025, starting at 11:00am and ending at the time of service.
