After a hard fight with deteriorating health, Barbara Fukal passed away peacefully with siblings at her side on November 14, 2023. Barbara Anne Franzene Fukal was born on December 11, 1951 in Elkhorn, WI; the daughter of the late Carl and Mary (Copeland) Franzene. She was a 1970 graduate of Badger High School and enjoyed cruising and traveling in her younger days, reading throughout her life, and many of the simple things in life: a good book, good food, a good drink (she was both a great cook and bartender), spending time with family and amazing friends (both near and far), and a good laugh. She will be missed by many.
She found her niche in the hay-day of Wisconsin Supper Clubs: first waitressing, then tending bar like a well oiled machine: she was said to be one of the fastest, best, most efficient bartenders in the lakes area at that time. It was during that time when she met and married the love of her life Robert John Fukal on September 12, 1978; Bob passed away in 1985. She quietly mourned his loss and shared many great memories of their traveling and time together until the day she died.
Barbara is survived by siblings Mary Anne (Dan) Kroll; Michael (Lois) Franzene; Don (Carrie) Franzene, Jerry Franzene, Lou Anne (Bruce) Hunt, JoAnne Franzene, Brian Franzene; and many nieces and nephews, great nieces and greatnephews. She was preceded in death by her loving husband Bob; her parents Mary and Carl; brothers Carl and John; her niece Liza; nephew Ryan; and great-nephew Nash.
As per Barbara’s wishes, there will be no memorial services. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, Barbara would want that we all simply be good to those we love and kind to those we meet…
