Amy Hughes-Eling (affectionately known as “Amos”), of Lake Geneva, Wisconsin, passed away with loved ones by her side on August 23rd, 2025. While her unexpected passing will leave a void, her legacy and memory will be carried on in her loved ones hearts forever. She will always be remembered for her zest for life and infectious smile. Amy would want people to celebrate her life with stories and cheer, rather than mourning.
Amy was born February 18th, 1959 in Chicago, IL to the late James Hughes and Vera Wesley. She grew up running around Genoa City, often on her horse. She was a graduate from Badger High School in 1977.
Amy has worked at Popeyes on Lake Geneva since 1978 and was often the highlight of people’s day, welcoming staff and customers with a smile and sharing stories.
She is survived by her daughter, Megan Eling; the love of her life, Steve Dowden; her brother, Jesse Hughes, and many dearly loved friends that were family. Amy was preceded in death by her parents, Jim and Vera.
In Lieu of flowers, we ask that donations be made to support the Brain Anuerysm Foundation: so that research can continue to be funded to find potential life-saving innovations for treatment and prevention; or to the Alzheimer’s Association .
Please join us in celebrating her memory, and her love for life. Services will be held on Monday, September 15th, 2025 from 4:00pm-7:00pm at The Green Grocer in Williams Bay, WI.
