Alex W. Steinforth Jr., of Powers Lake, WI, died Monday February 24, 2014 at his home surrounded by his family. Alexander William Steinforth Jr. was born in Buffalo, NY on May 25, 1924 the son of the late Alexander W. and Myra (Stark) Steinforth Sr. He grew up in Buffalo, NY and earned a BA in Math at the University of Buffalo. He served 4 years with the United States Navy during World War II. On February 28, 1948 in Buffalo, he was united in marriage to the former Betty A. Dumke; she preceded him in death on February 20, 2001. They lived in Lincolnshire, IL before moving to Powers Lake in 1989. He was a Fellow in the Society of Actuaries and was employed by William M. Mercer for 33 years as a pension actuary. In his younger years, he enjoyed playing bridge, skiing, sailing, tennis, racquetball, handball, squash, horseshoes and woodworking. In his later years he enjoyed swimming in the lake, and at the health club. Most recently, he would spend hours daily challenging himself with Sudoku, Ken-Ken and Kakuro puzzles. Alex is survived by: his son William (Wendi) Steinforth of Cary, IL and 2 grandsons; Roger Alexander Steinforth and Austin William Steinforth.
Services for Alexander will be Saturday March 1, 2014 at 12:00 p.m. in the chapel of Derrick Funeral Home in Lake Geneva.; Reverend Keith Aurand Pastor of the Lake Geneva United Methodist Church will officiate. Burial will follow in Oak Hill Cemetery in Lake Geneva. The Steinforth family will receive visitors Saturday from 11:00 a.m. until time of services. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy memorials are requested in Alexander’s name to: Shriners Hospitals for Children, P.O. Box 1510, Ranson, WV 25438-4510.
