Maude S. Graef, 90, originally from the Chicago IL area, passed away on February 19th, 2019 at Arbor View Communities in Burlington, Wisconsin.
Born Maude Scanlan to the late Alan and Marie (Merk) Scanlan on May 12, 1928, she and her late husband Robert John Graef were married for over 65 years, having been wed in 1948 after Robert returned from the war.
Maude and Robert raised a family in Chicago and then retired up to the Door County, WI area (Sturgeon Bay) where they lived happily for over 25 years. Both were active together in the Meals on Wheels program, their local Catholic church St’s Peter and Paul parish, the local VFW post among many other associations, including the Door County Property Owners Association, which her husband was a founder of. Maude volunteered at the local schools where she taught art and would read to the kids. Maude loved children, teaching, flowers and plants; she made many friends easily and was known for her kindness.
Two children survive Maude, Steve (Nadine Parise) Graef of Westchester, Illinois and George (Michelle) Graef of Kenosha, Wisconsin, and there are 4 grandchildren: Kirstin (Patrick) McGinnis, Christopher (Emily) Graef, Timothy Graef, and Amanda Graef along with 1 great-grandchild, Maeve Sloan McGinnis. Two sisters also survive Maude, Patricia (Joe) Albergo of Park Ridge, Illinois and MaryAnn Jaye of the Minneapolis/St. Paul area. Husband of 68 years, Robert, passed on March 31, 2016 and brother Frank Scanlan preceded Maude in death.
Visitation for Maude will be from 10:00am till the time of service at 12:00 pm on Saturday March 2nd 2019, in the main chapel of Derrick Funeral Home.
