James A. Johnson, 87, of Delavan Township passed away on June 29, 2017 at home.

Jim was born in Lake Geneva on August 22, 1929 to Merrill and Ruth Johnson.  He graduated from Lake Geneva High School, attended Carthage College in Illinois and then entered and was a graduate of the dealer program at General Motors Institute in Flint, MI. After graduation Jim served with the US Army in Japan for a 2-year period.  After he returned home from the Army he went on to become associated with several local General Motors dealerships prior to commencing his 30-year corporate career with Chevrolet Motor Division.

Jim had many hobbies and interests. As a young boy he was extremely proud to have become an Eagle Scout with Lake Geneva local Troop 235.  Having grown up on Geneva Lake he always had a great fondness and respect for the lake itself which influenced his life-long enthusiasm for water activities, including ice-boating, sailing, and in later years becoming a Master Scuba diver.  Jim went on to become a volunteer at a rescue diving organization in the Fox Valley, IL area.  He was also a Past-Commodore of the Prestbury Yacht Club, where he enjoyed sailing Lasers for many years.

After Jim’s retirement he and his wife returned to the Geneva Lakes area where he wished to contribute to his community.  He developed an interest in politics and was voted in and served two terms in Fontana as a Village Trustee and also became President of Country Club Estates Home Owners Association.  Later after relocating to Westshire Farms in Delavan he became the first Westshire President of the Resident’s Board.   Jim was also a very active member of the Lake Geneva United Methodist Church where he at one time served as a Trustee.

Jim is survived by his wife of 63 years, Susanne L. Johnson (Dickerman), four children Cynthia (Donald) Houk, Linda (Barney) Crook, Steven (Karen) Johnson, and Timothy (Jennifer) Johnson.  He was the proud grandfather of 5 granddaughters and 5 grandsons and was a great-grandfather to two great-grandsons.  He was proceeded in death by his parents Merrill and Ruth (Southwick) Johnson and his brother Glenn M. Johnson.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 5th at the Lake Geneva United Methodist Church, 912 Geneva Street, Lake Geneva, WI.
