Colleen "Mickey" (Rybicks) Petranek

Colleen B. “Mickey” Petranek, 89, of Lake Geneva passed away on June 25th, 2017 at Aurora Lakeland Medcial Center.

Born Colleen Bernice Petranek to the late Michael and Irene (Morrissey) Rybicke in Stevens Point, Wisconsin on January 31st, 1928.  After graduating from high school Colleen attended the University of Wisconsin Stevens Point where she received a degree in teaching.  On August 11th, 1953 she was united into marriage to Robert F. Petranek in Iowa.  Robert preceded Colleen in death on July 15, 2009.

Colleen was a kindergarten teacher for many years starting her career at the Como School then after that she split her time between Traver School and Central Elementary school in Lake Geneva.  In 1975 Colleen was award the Wisconsin School Teacher of the Year, an honor that was bestowed onto her after her nomination from the staff at Traver School.

2 children survive Colleen; Patricia (George) Steffen of Lake Geneva and James (Alex) Petranek of Middleton, Wisconsin.  8 Grandchildren: Jamie (Chad) Vezina of McFarland, Wisconsin; Josh (Megan Call) Steffen of Salt Lake City, Utah; Jorie Steffen of Madison; Christopher Petranek and McKenzie Petranek of Janesville, Wisconsin, and Nicholas, Zachary, and Jacob Petranek of Middleton, Wisconsin, and 4 great-grandchildren all survive Colleen.  Colleen was preceded in death by her son Michael Petranek in 1986.

Service for Colleen will be held on Saturday July 1st, 2017 at 11:00am in the chapel of Derrick Funeral Home and Cremation Services.  Visitation will be held on Saturday July 1st, 2017 from 10:00am till the time of service.  Internment will be held at Oakhill Cemetery at a later date.

In lieu of other expressions of sympathy the family of Colleen has asked that you make a donation in her name to the Side-by-Side organization.
