Joan Margaret Mellien of Lake Geneva, WI, passed away on April 16th, 2024 at her residence.
Joan was born in Hebron, IL on December 29th, 1935 to William De Young and Eva (Irvine) De Young. She attended the Country School and High School in the Hebron area and accomplished several college courses. Joan married Kurt Peterson on January 7th, 1956 and divorced on February 4th, 1974. Together they shared three children; James, Marjorie, and Bill who were raised in the Hebron area.
In 1983, Joan moved to Lake Geneva and was employed by S.F. Hutchinson Ent. DBA/Mcdonalds from May 1978 till retirement in December 2000. She started her career as a secretary and bookkeeper and for several years worked as an office manager. In April of 2001, Joan married the late Ray Mellien, who passed away in November of 2010.
Joan was passionate about horseback riding, gardening, and traveling to new places. She was active in her community and served within her church, Immanuel Lutheran Church, and several other non-profits in the Lake Geneva area; Geneva Lake Area Museum, and the American Legion Auxiliary.
Joan is preceded in death by her parents; William and Eva, her brother; Jerry, her daughter; Marjorie, and her husband, Ray Mellien. She is survived by her sons; James Peterson and Bill (Miranda) Peterson; her grandchildren; Ian, Nathan, Kristi, Logan, Chelsie, and Taylor, and her 10 great grandchildren.
Services for Joan will be held on Saturday, April 27th, 2024 at the Derrick Funeral Home in Lake Geneva, WI. Visitation will be held from 10-12:30pm with the funeral service immediately to follow.
