Susan Morton Obituary

Susan Dickinson Morton, b. 9/23/1936, 81 yrs. of Lake Geneva, WI, died Thursday 2/1/2018, of ovarian cancer. "Sue" Morton has been a Lake Geneva resident nearly all her life. Daughter of the late Albert Boyd and Bernice (Bryn) Dickinson. She graduated from Stephens College in Missouri and transferred to Michigan State, then became an elementary teacher. She met Robert “Bob” in a true love manner and followed him to be the wife of a military journalist.  On June 27, 1958, in Stuttgart, Germany she was united in marriage to Robert C. Morton.  Susan has been an active part of every community where she resided.  In returning to the USA in 1959, Susan began raising her family and serving the community.  Notably she was an enthusiastic member of the Lake Geneva Garden Club, Pilgrim Church Charter Member, PEO (Philanthropic Educational Organization), Daughters of the American Revolution, Questers, and was a dedicated Linn Township Voting Warden.  Sue’s legacy includes creating a loving family and sharing joy with everyone she met.  Outdoor activity was prevalent at the Morton Household and Sue expected the family to love God’s creation.  With hoots and high-fives, the coolest mom ever raised four sons and an adventuring daughter in an Eagle Scout household.  Susie served as a Master Gardener, and she was a proud founder of the Lake Geneva Farmers’ Market and past board member of Horticultural Hall.  Sue was also a Doncaster clothing sales rep for 30 years. She radiated fashion and creativity in all her endeavors.  In semi-retirement Bob and Sue enthusiastically owned and operated General Boyd's Bed and Breakfast at the old family farmstead.  They served thousands of patrons home cooked meals and conversation at their beautiful home, with pride and joy.  Susan is survived by: her five productive children: Robert Morton of Helena, MT, David (Judith) Morton of Wilmette, IL, Nathan Morton of Cardiff, CA, Stuart Morton of Brookfield, WI, and Sarah (David) Schuster of Lake Geneva, WI; 13 promising grandchildren; and her sisters (who are close lifelong friends) Nancy D. Picken and Lois D. Whiting of Lake Geneva, WI; twin sister Sarah “Sally” D. (Richard) Baker of Rockford, IL; and a caring sister-in-law Merry Morton of Chester, NJ.  She is preceded by sister Jessica D. Holt.
