Welcome to the memorial page for

Charles F. Thometz DDS

March 24, 1934 ~ June 6, 2017 (age 83) 83 Years Old

It is with great sadness we inform you that Charles Francis Thometz DDS, 83, of Lake Geneva, passed away peacefully in his sleep in the morning hours of June 6th, 2017 at Mercy Hospital in Lake Geneva.  Throughout his stay in the hospital, Charles was surrounded by his family; sharing their memories, support, and prayers.

Charles was born in the home of his parent's, John Thometz and Louise (Schick) Thometz, on March 24, 1934 with his three brothers and one sister welcoming him into this world.

In 1952, Charles graduated from Fenwick High School in Oak Park, IL.  Following in his father's and brother's footsteps, Charles earned a degree in Dentistry from Loyola University in 1958.  He served his country in the Army at Fort Sill, Oklahoma from July 1958 to July 1960.  Loving to make people smile, it was only natural that Charles pursued a career as an Orthodontist after leaving the Army.  He spent the rest of his working years perfecting other people's smiles.

At a Viator Club gathering in 1960, Charles met the love of his life, Mary Ann (Sue) Laske.  After two years of blissful courtship, they married on June 2, 1962 and honeymooned in Yosemite National Park - A place he and his family would return to many times over the years.  His love of nature and the outdoors was instilled in his children with their many trips to the National Parks around the US, especially Yosemite, and summers in Lake Geneva.  Charles and Sue developed the travel bug and journeyed extensively throughout Europe and South America.  In 2010, they retired to the home Charles designed in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin.

Charles devoted his time to a multitude of organizations, causes, and students. Charles spent numerous years teaching at Loyola University preparing the next generation of Orthodontists.  Career affiliations included: American Dental Association, Illinois State Dental Society, the Chicago Dental Society (West side branch), American Association of Orthodontics, and Midwest Society of Orthodontists.   Charles spent over a decade on the Board of the Sunset Hills Association and he was a member of the Lake Geneva Evironmental Protection Agency.  Charles was a devoted Christian and was a parishioner of St. Francis de Sales Church.

Charles is survived by his wife, Mary Ann (Sue), their four children; Timothy C. (Jen Choi) Thometz DDS, Linda (Dave) Fromholz, James M. (Miryam-Catthy) Thometz, & Michael C. Thometz, and their four grandchildren; Jessica, Jennifer, Eric, & Brian.  He is also survived by his siblings, Ruth and William and his brother-in-law Reverend Kenneth Laske.  He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Louise and his brothers, John and Richard.
